texas sheet cake
ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
2 sticks butter
1 cup water
4 tbsp cocoa
chocolate frosting (see recipe below)
directions
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, eggs, and sour cream.
In a medium-sized pot, bring the butter, water, and cocoa to a boil and add to the above mixture. Pour into a sheetcake pan and bake for 20 - 25 minutes. Let cool just slightly before adding frosting.
frosting ingredients
1 stick butter
1/3 cup milk
4 tbsp cocoa
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
frosting directions
Bring the butter, milk and cocoa to a boil. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and walnuts. Pour over cake, spreading immediately with a plastic spatula.
notes
I've always used the Herschey's cocoa mix, but you can use your favorite brand. The batter of the cake may seem quite thin, but I promise, the cake comes out. The frosting is just as good without nuts.
